Vietnamese steelmaker Formosa Ha Tinh Steel on Oct. 15 rolled over its monthly domestic hot-rolled coil offers for December shipment, according to a source close to the mill.
The mill maintained its offers for non-skinpassed SAE1006 and pipemaking SS400 for December-January shipment at Dong 13,734-13,994/kg, or $522-$532/mt CIF domestic ports, with discounts available for larger volumes.
Skinpassed SAE1006 coils were quoted at a $5/mt premium, according to the mill.
The rollover was largely in line with market expectations, following similar pricing decisions by domestic peer Hoa Phat Group earlier this month.
While dong-denominated offers were unchanged, the doll are quivalent values edged up by $3/mt, reflecting the recent depreciation of the currency, market sources said.
“It’s not easy for Formosa to sell at this price,” a Vietnam based trader said.
Agreeing, a second Vietnam-based trader said this was especially given the price softness in China after the Golden Week holidays.
Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, assessed SAE1006 HRC at $504/mt CFR Southeast Asia Oct. 14, down $2/mt day over day.
